Notes on Raw Materials:
Disclaimer for Raw Material Quantities:
Suggested quantities and sizes may not follow Rio's minimum order requirements or cutting guidelines- please know you may have to order more than you need for one ring.
Rio has also made a lot of changes to their minimum order quantities and size requirements; you may need to review their current offerings to see if you can purchase less than I've dictated on the Raw Materials List; my apologies for this- I try to keep up with their ever-expanding inventory but it's totally possible I've missed something!
Should any of the above materials be unavailable, we can likely find a substitute. There is always a way! Contact me if you need help finding an alternative.
A Word on Gemstone Sizes:
On your Raw Materials List, I have recommended sizes for both oval and circular stones. Ovals and circles are recommended because our bezels are thick, and these shapes tend to be easier to form with mandrels being readily available to help you along the way, if needed.
These mandrels will only be helpful if the stones used are not so big as to have bezels that are larger in diameter than the widest part of the mandrels, otherwise your bezels will simply fall off.
The stone measurements I've chosen are recommended because I know they'll fit on most mandrels. My oval forming mandrel, for example, measures 16mm x 21mm at the widest part, so any oval bezels I create need to be for stones no larger than this. The oval forming mandrel on your tool list, however, is a bit larger, so you can work with a much larger stone.
All this to say that stone measurements have been recommended for a reason but are NOT absolutes. You can work with larger stones if you so choose and even stones with different silhouettes. If you do not have a forming mandrel and won't be using one to help shape your bezel, you're not limited by the mandrel's size to what the scale of your stone can be.
Finally, if you opt to use a stone that is deeper than the recommended 9.5mm (again, a generalization but not an absolute), know that if it turns out to be too deep to fit into your bezel the proper way, you can always set it upside down! Shallower stones and EVEN FLAT STONES work just fine for this project!
