"Housing" sounds so official, but really all we're making here is a thick and (extra) tall bezel for our focal stone.

The "hidden" nature of our box clasp in this project rests on the fact that our bezel setting doubles as the female, or housing, side of our clasp. Because of this dual-purpose design, what looks to be a pendant is also a mechanism.

For the lessons in this section, we are making a bezel for our stone using a heavier material than we might normally use for this type of setting; however, the added strength allows the bezel to also act as the housing for our trigger, which will slide beneath the stone through a notch cut in the bezel wall. For this reason, you may notice me using the terms bezel, wall, and housing interchangeably in either the videos or in your handouts when referring to this part of our clasp structure.

Have I confused you already? Stick with me! It will all make sense as we go along.
