NOTES ON RAW MATERIALS:

SILVER SHEET & TUBE: I've tried to be economical with your raw material order. Because Rio sells sheet metal at a minimum measurement of 6” on one side, an order of 6” x 3.25” will be enough to create 18 bead caps and three bells. Alternatively, you could create two bells and more bead caps. Rio also only sells 12” lengths of 12.7mm OD tubing, unfortunately.

LEATHER: Essentially, you need a stringing material for the beads and bell pendant. If you need longer than 18” in length, or if you just don’t like the look of the braided leather, any alternative material is fine: silk, ribbon, even chain, as long as you can fit it through your beads and connect it to your toggle.

JUMP RINGS: Pre-fabricated jump rings are indeed expensive! You could skip them altogether or opt to create your own using 16g dead soft wire wrapped around a 6.5mm mandrel. (Keep in mind, however, that this will require extra wire in addition to the 6.5” listed above.) Solder your handmade rings closed prior to dapping, then proceed as the demo videos instruct.

CASTING GRAIN: In the course, I use sterling casting grain for the ball embellishments. This was filmed in 2018 when the sterling casting grain from Rio was largely uniform and round in shape. Nowadays, it's much more organic and looks more like rice cereal than spheres. Fine silver casting grain is an alternative option that, in my experience, seems to still have many grains in that nice round silhouette. You can also melt your scrap to create your own balls, or forego them altogether.

COPPER? If you’d rather not do your first exercises on sterling silver, invest in some 22g sheet copper for practice. Likewise, 12.7mm (or half inch) copper pipe is available at Amazon or big box hardware stores (check the plumbing section). Cut, pierce, form and solder just as you would sterling.

Remember you can message me if you have questions about any of this!  Hope this helps and can't wait to see what you create!
