SOLDER SCHOOL Q&A:

I'm brand new to jewelry fabrication. Is Solder School right for me?

Yes! Solder School is designed to address soldering from the ground up, going deep and wide across all topics related to this skill. Those who are new will find a comprehensive course that sets them up for success, while more experienced jewelry makers will deepen their technical understanding, refine their skills, and pick up new ways of solving old problems.

What torch do I need for this program?

The torch you need for Solder School is the torch you have, period.

Do not let your type of torch or your lack of torch prevent you from getting started.

Solder School covers torch options and considerations for those looking to invest in new equipment; however, it's important to understand that soldering is rooted in universal principles that apply regardless of torch style. While it's true that certain projects and applications require specific approaches (pinpoint flame, intense heat, etc), these are project-based requirements, not soldering-specific requirements. You can gain so much knowledge and practice now, with whatever you have at hand.

Successful soldering is far less the result of any specific torch than it is of the person holding it.

What if I have to miss a couple weeks during the program?

The Apprentice tier will be the best fit for those who have limited availability during the first two months of the program. While the Artisan and Alchemist levels include live calls and/or individual coaching during this time, the Apprentice level is built entirely upon pre-recorded videos and lessons, allowing students in this format to self-pace without missing any information.

How long will I have access to the course platform and contents?

Students enrolled at the Apprentice and Artisan levels have access to all course contents for one year from the program start date. At that point, students will have the option to continue with Solder School through a paid monthly subscription.

Alchemist-tier students retain access to the Solder School program indefinitely- meaning, for as long as Jess continues to offer online courses.

Solder School student communities on Facebook will remain active for one year from the program start date prior to being archived. At that time, all students across the three tiers will be provided the opportunity to join an alumni community for extended sharing and support.

What support is offered outside of Solder School?

A private Solder School Facebook community serves as the container for students to ask questions of fellow participants and the instructor, share, and showcase work. This community will remain open and available for one year from the program start date. After that time, the group will be archived so that members can still reference discussions; however, the ability to add new posts and comments will be disabled.

Students are also welcome to use the digital calendar link included in the course materials to schedule a 20-minute 1:1 consultation with Jess via Zoom. This option incurs a separate and additional fee not included in the Solder School tier pricing.

Except for students in the Alchemist tier, direct email support is unfortunately not available.

Do different tiers include different or additional soldering instruction?

No. All tiers get the same comprehensive, in-depth training on soldering. This is the core learning of Solder School.

Are the different tiers meant for different skill levels?

No. All tiers include the core training, focusing on soldering skills that start with the basics of what soldering is and continue through advanced applications. Tiers are structured by the level, or depth, of support students may want in addition to the soldering curriculum. Moving upward from the Apprentice Tier, each level brings increased access to instructor guidance and interaction as well as the introduction of coaching around mindset, creative practice, impostor syndrome, and how doing the work of creating integrates with the larger vision and goals for a fulfilling, intentionally designed life.

Is Solder School a project-based course? Are we actually making jewelry?

Maybe! This is up to you!

Solder School is a technical training designed to provide the best possible foundation for soldering success.

While a specific, tangible outcome is not this program's objective, each week's training module includes the following:

  • One or two practice drills designed to help techniques "stick" through repetition

  • a "mini-project" challenge that requires the use of that week's specific training while encouraging creative experimentation and play

Students are not required to participate in these drills and challenges; they are simply offered as a vehicle for advancing skills in a tangible, measurable way.

What's the refund policy?

This program promises to provide you with everything you need to tame the torch and consistently solder with clean, controlled, successful results. This pledge, however, comes with the belief that students will participate fully in the training. Failure to commit to your own learning will leave you with little benefit from purchasing this program or any other, no matter how comprehensive or high-quality the training may be.

If, after eight weeks, you've done the work and don't see measurable improvement in your skills, simply send Jess your completed module quizzes and images of each week's practice projects. Your full refund will be issued- no questions asked.

Now is the Right Time, and Solder School is the Right Program!

Stop struggling, stop second-guessing yourself. Two months from now, you could be building and selling the work you've envisioned.

Save Money

The price of a quality education pales in comparison to the cost of shaky soldering skills. Investing in solid training is far less expensive than a jewelry practice consistently impaired by wasted materials, partial projects, scrapped efforts, and inefficient production.

Drop the Doubt

Soldering is a skill- anyone can learn to do it. Even if your specific challenge feels unique, you’re not alone. Solder School is grounded in universal techniques that apply to all styles and studio setups. Precision doesn’t come from talent; it comes from training.

Save Time

Efficient training streamlines the entire soldering process, making your time at the torch more productive and your results more reliable. Fewer mistakes, less cleanup, less undoing, redoing, and less starting over all mean more time for new work and creativity.

A Deeper Dive

Solder School blends technical know-how with intuitive awareness, addressing the why as well as the how. Understanding that poor results are the symptom instead of the problem permits you to address soldering with more clarity and less guesswork.
